Rhodiola is a plant that thrives in Europe and Asia’s cold, mountainous regions.
Its roots are adaptogens, which means that when taken, they assist your body adapt to stress.
Rhodiola rosea is the scientific name for the plant Rhodiola rosea, which is commonly known as arctic root or golden root.
Its root contains around 140 active compounds, with rosavin and salidroside being the most effective.
For millennia, people in Russia and Scandinavia have utilized rhodiola to cure anxiety, weariness, and sadness.
Because of its numerous health benefits, it is now commonly utilized as a dietary supplement.

Another study compared the effects of rhodiola to sertraline, a popularly prescribed antidepressant sold under the brand name Zoloft. For 12 weeks, 57 persons diagnosed with depression were randomly randomized to either rhodiola, sertraline, or a placebo pill.
While both rhodiola and sertraline reduced depression symptoms, sertraline was more effective. Rhodiola, on the other hand, had less adverse effects and was well accepted.

In one trial, 56 physicians on night duty were given the drug to see how it affected their mental weariness.
For two weeks, the doctors were randomly allocated to receive either 170 mg of rhodiola or a placebo pill.
Rhodiola reduced mental tiredness and enhanced work-related task performance by 20% when compared to a placebo.
Another study looked at how rhodiola affected military cadets who were on night duty. For five days, the cadets took either 370 mg or 555 mg of rhodiola or one of two placebos.
When compared to the placebos, both doses improved the cadets’ mental work capacity.
After using rhodiola pills for 20 days, students reported much less mental weariness, improved sleep habits, and increased motivation to study. In addition, their exam scores were 8% higher than those in the placebo group.
Two review papers showed evidence that rhodiola can help with mental weariness, but they cautioned that the study was limited in quantity and quality, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions.
